Studio Hire

Can I hire Impact Dance’s Studio space?

Yes! We have a variety of space we hire out to Commercial & Charities/Community Groups. Our studio is available from 9.00am – 8.00pm, however bookings are to only be made in 8-hour blocks.

Do you offer a discount to charities and community groups?

We do offer a discounted price for charities and community groups.

Please refer to our Studio Hire Rates Card for more information.

Do you have a performance space?

We do not have a designated performance space, but depending on the type of performance you wish to do the studio can accommodate a performance space.

What is included in the hire?

You will have access to the room that you’ve hired, including toilets. If you’ve hired a room on the 4th floor, you will also have access to ‘The Chill’ (Kitchen).

What spaces do you have available?

The Studio, The Chill, The Safe & The Basement.

Is the studio wheelchair accessible?

Yes, the front of building is ramped and there is a lift to all available hire spaces. We also have accessible toilets in our Basement and on the 4th floor.  The Studio is accessible by a double door, however The Basement, The Chill & The Safe can only be accessed via a standard single width light weight door.

Does Impact Dance offer technical support?

We provide basic assistance however, we do not offer technical support; you would need to bring your own lighting technician for additional technical or lighting support.

Do you set up the studio space for the hirer?

If furniture set up or equipment set up is communicated prior to the booking, we can set up the studio ready for your booking.

Do you have somewhere I can park or a loading bay?

There is no designated parking space or a loading bay for our building, however, Bucknall Street located alongside our building is our closest pick-up & drop-off spot.

Are you open on Sundays?

Unfortunately, we are not open on Sundays, we are only open 9.00am – 8.00pm on weekdays.

Do you offer adult dance classes?

Impact Dance doesn’t offer adult dance classes; however, we have teachers that run adult dance classes in our space.

What styles of dance does the Academy teach?

The Academy mainly focuses on Hip-Hop Dance training; however, a variety of dance styles can be offered throughout different terms.

Academy

What age can you join academy?  

Impact Dance Academy is for young people aged 11 – 19yrs.

On the rare occasion, there may be extenuating circumstances under which we are prepared to accept students under the age of 11yrs. This is done on a case-by-case basis.

Is there a waiting list for the academy? 

There is currently no waiting list for the Academy.

Do I have to audition for the academy? 

There is no audition process for the Academy. Impact Dance welcomes young people of all abilities to train with the Academy, and all students will have at least 2 performance opportunities a year. 

Do I need dance experience to join the academy? 

Impact Dance welcomes young people of all abilities to train with the Academy. While some prior dance experience can be helpful, it is not a prerequisite to participation. The Academy offers its 1st session to new students as a free taster, so you can come and experience the level for yourself.

Do academy students get to perform?

All students will have at least 2 performance opportunities a year.  

Occasionally additional performance opportunities with the Academy will arise and these are not always offered out to all students. Selection of dancers for additional performance opportunities can be based on a number of factors, from the number of performers required for a piece by the commissioning programme, the skill level required for the piece, student’s attendance record and attitude are also considerations in selection.

How often does the academy train?  

The Academy runs every Saturday from 9.45am – 1pm at our Shaftesbury Avenue, London studio. Academy members are expected to commit to the weekly Saturday training sessions, plus occasional additional rehearsals, as-and-when required for performances. 

What do I need to wear to class?

There is no uniform for the Academy. Please come in comfortable, close-fitting clothes that you can move in easily. Socks can be worn as an alternative to shoes for ballet class.

You may have noticed dancers in our photos wearing Impact “squad” t-shirts; Dancers that have been in the Academy for over a term and demonstrated a commitment to the Academy are awarded “Squad t-shirts” with a unique number printed on the back. These do not come at any financial cost to the participant.

Costumes for performances are provided by Impact Dance.

Youth Dance Company

Do I have I have to audition?  

Auditions for our Youth Dance Company are held at the beginning of the September term. Occasionally there are additional auditions held at other points in the year. Please enquire if you are interested in auditioning for the company.

Do I have to be a member of the Academy to join the Impact Youth Company?

Impact Youth Company members are expected to train weekly with the Academy. Youth Company rehearsals are held on a Saturday after Academy from 1.45pm – 3pm.

How often do you get to perform?

Impact Youth Company performs regularly throughout the year. Performances range from local festivals to national and international touring opportunities.  
 
Performance opportunities are not always offered out to all company members. Selection of dancers for performances can be based on a number of factors, from the number of performers required for a piece by the commissioning programme, the skill level required for the piece, student’s attendance record and attitude are also considerations in selection. 

How is the Youth Company different to the Academy?  

The Youth Company exists to create and perform work. Training from 1.45pm – 3pm comprises the choreographic / creative process of making work and rehearsals for performances. 

What styles of dance does the Youth Company Teach?  

Impact Dance works mainly with Hip Hop and Street Dance styles, but is also influenced by a range of techniques, including contemporary and theatre.  

Do Youth company members go on to train professionally?

Not every Youth Company member wants to go on to professional training, however, the company provides excellent experience for those who do. Company members and alumni have gained places on both pre-vocation and vocational training courses including:

Can I book impact to teach a workshop at my school? 

Schools can book one-off workshops, afterschool clubs and projects with Impact Dance. Please contact our Head of Engagement Joey for details joey@impactdance.co.uk  

Do Impact run after school clubs? 

Impact Dance offer after-school clubs in secondary schools. Please contact our Head of Engagement Joey for details joey@impactdance.co.uk 

Does Impact offer continued professional development for teachers? 

Impact Dance offer a range of bespoke CPD offerings to PE and Dance teachers to support teaching dance in schools. Please contact our Head of Engagement to discuss your specific needs. School teachers are also welcome to apply for Impact Dance’s CPD Teaching Dance course.  

What age ranges does Impact offer work for?

Impact Dance’s work focuses on secondary school age and above (11 – 19yrs) however, we do also on occasion offer work in primary schools. Please speak to our Head of Engagement for details joey@impactdance.co.uk 

How much does Impact charge for school workshops? 

Workshop fees range depending on project. We do not wish cost to be a prohibitive factor in children and young people accessing dance, so please speak to our Head of Engagement to discuss your project requirements and budget joey@impactdance.co.uk

Does Impact offer work experience? 

Impact Dance has a commitment to offering work experience to young people. To enquire about availability, please complete a form on our work experience page.

What do you offer as work experience? 

Impact Dance aims to offer a broad experience, allowing students to see all aspects of a working dance company in action. This will typically include participation in our Academy dance classes, administrational tasks in the office, production elements and where possible, we aim to offer a show or event experience – assisting backstage or front of house.

Impact Dance will work with the individual or school to tailor the experience to the student’s interests as much as possible.

How long are the work experience placements you offer? 

We typically offer 1-week blocks, due to demand. Shorter placements are possible. Please enquire if your school or college requires a longer time period as this may on occasion be possible.

Do you offer internships?

Impact Dance welcomes enquiries from Colleges and Universities regarding placements, but we do not currently offer official internships.

Does Impact offer Professional Development for dancers?

Impact Dance offers mentoring to emerging artists and choreographers. We also occasionally offer CPD workshops and courses. Please check out our Events and Opportunities page on the website for the latest information or contact joey@impactdance.co.uk for more information.

Does Impact offer Consultancy or Mentoring?

Impact Dance offers consultancy to organisations and companies in the area of Hip Hop Dance, Hip Hop Dance Theatre and Street Dance, The creation of performance work, Community and Engagement strategy with Young People, Academy set-up, Culture Building work with young people.

Impact Dance also offers mentoring to emerging artists, dance teachers, choreographers and dance administrators. Mentoring is assessed and offered on a case-by-case basis.

What do impact graduates go on to do?  

Dancers from the Academy and Youth Company go on to a range of roles and professions both in and outside of dance. They include choreographers, performers, actors, musicians, dance therapists, entrepreneurs, university graduates, singers, fitness instructors, dance school principals, teachers, youth workers, TV Radio presenters & MORE! 
 
Not every young person wants to go on to professional training, however, the company provides excellent experience for those who do. Company members and alumni have gained places on both pre-vocation and vocational training courses at recognised institutions such as:
